AM/PM Skincare Routine

I know, it's the most cliche influencer saying, but I get a ton of questions on my skincare routine! I really do, I promise I wouldn't be taking the time to write a full blog post on it if I didn't!

Obviously, I'm no professional when it comes to skincare, but I'm happy to share what I use and what works for me in hopes that something I've shared might work for you too!

A little bit about my skin

I think it helps to preface with a little background on my skin, so you can compare it to yours, and keep it in mind when I'm talking about the products I use!

My skin is sensitive, and I do not mean that lightly. I would classify it as extremely, extremely sensitive. I have to be so careful about the products I'm using, because 99.9% of things I've used, have caused horrible horrible breakouts and reactions for me.

Even the most "clean", gentle products have cause reactions that don't go away for days. I used to use the Neutrogena makeup removing wipes, and for the longest time I would wake up with a puffy, beat red face, dry flaky skin, and my eyes were almost always swollen shut.

I finally started looking into what might be causing it, researched every product I was using, and found an ingredient in the wipes that was causing the reaction.

When it comes to acne, I am lucky. Besides the occasional hormonal breakout, I do not suffer from acne of any kind.

About the products I use

That said, all the products in my skincare routine are gentle/sensitive skin products. They are not medical grade, and I know that's a hot topic among beauty/skincare experts, however medical grade doesn't always mean better products, or that they're right for everyone. It just means they're highly concentrated, and are items that are available from businesses that operate under some type of physician's license.

For example, if you follow any skincare gurus or beauty bloggers, you've probably seen them post about the Revision skincare line. While this skincare line might be great for some, it absolutely wrecked my skin. I tried their papaya enzyme cleanser, and had the worst reaction I've ever had.

I had to call my nurse friend, and coat my face in Aquaphor for a week straight. So, all that to say, just because it has the medical grade stamp on it does not mean it's automatically going to work for you! Do some research first, and know your skin type and what works.

I also want to preface by saying this: it's worth it to invest in your skin. If you're having issues, see a dermatologist or an esthetician. They are well versed in skin types, skin issues, etc., and will be able to help you with whatever it is you're looking for!

These are simply the products I use, and love!

AM Routine

  1. Cleanser
    • I have been using this Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating cleanser for four years now, and I have not found anything I like better. It's so gentle, calming, and has no fragrance, which I love.
  2. Toner
    • Thayers Alcohol Free Witch Hazel Toner is another product I've been using for years. It works just like any normal toner would, but it doesn't contain alcohol, which is great for sensitive skin. It doesn't leave your face feeling dry, wiped of moisture, or leave your skin feeling tight.
  3. Hyaluronic Acid
    • This is newer to my skincare routine, but I really really like it. I have seen a difference in the texture and brightness of my skin since I started using it, and it's extremely gentle. The only HA I've ever used that was gentle enough to use every day.
  4. Moisturizer
    • I have used this moisturizer for years and I love it. It's so light and hydrating! It has zero smell, and it goes on clear. It has never broken me out like a lot of moisturizers do.
  5. SPF
    • If you are not wearing an SPF every day, you NEED to be using one. It is so important. I use this Elta MD tinted moisturizer and I love it. It's light, not greasy at all, and hasn't broken me out once. It has a light tint to it, but doesn't give much coverage; perfect for under your makeup!

PM ROUTINE

  1. Makeup Remover
    • Farmacy Beauty Green Clean Removing Balm is my tried and true makeup remover. It is SO gentle, removes makeup in seconds, melts away mascara with no harsh rubbing, and doesn't leave a greasy film on your face. It leaves your skin feeling fresh, hydrated, and clean. I use these makeup removing cloths to help wipe my makeup away after I work the Green Clean into my skin.
  2. Cleanser
    • I have been using this Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating cleanser for four years now, and I have not found anything I like better. It's so gentle, calming, and has no fragrance, which I love.
  4. The Buffet
    • This is a serum from the Ordinary both my mom and friend recommended to me and I've been using it for about a year. I feel like it's just an all around great product. It's good for all skin types, and it's main purpose is to prevent the signs of aging. Who couldn't use that?!
  5. Vitamin C Serum
    • This stuff has thousands of Amazon reviews, and for good reason. I started using this about two years ago and haven't gone without it since. Vitamin C serum is an all around great product.
  6. Moisturizer
    • I have used this moisturizer for years and I love it. It's so light and hydrating! It has zero smell, and it goes on clear. It has never broken me out like a lot of moisturizers do.
  7. Chapstick
    • I'll be the first to admit that I bought into the Laniege "sleep mask" hype when people first started talking about it. I think it's a great product, but after I used it for awhile, it broke me out around my chin/mouth. I use Aquaphor now and it works just as well! And it's $3!
  8. Babe Lash (KALE20 is my code)
    • This is the lash serum I use! I use it every night and have used it for a year now. It's so affordable and it works wonders. You apply like you would a liquid eye liner on your top lid. It takes one swipe on each eye and you'll see a dramatic difference in fullness and length in 4 weeks.

Products I use occasionally, but not every day!

  • Retinol
    • I use a retinol about 2-3x per week. It's too strong for me to use every day, but I like using it every other/every two nights. I apply this after I use "The Buffet" serum when I use it.
  • Niacinamide
    • I use this 2-3 nights per week as well. It's strong, so I can't use it every night, but I do think it works! It helps with skin blemishes and congestion. I use this after I use "The Buffet" serum when I use it.
  • AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
    • This peeling mask helps with blemishes, fine lines, and wrinkles. I would suggest only using this once a week to see how your skin reacts, then you can start using it more often. But so far, it's amazing! It has the most incredible reviews and was the #1 recommended product by you guys when I asked for your "Ordinary Skincare" suggestions!
    • Fair warning, it looks like blood, so don't be alarmed!
