River Spirit Resort, Oklahoma
I had so many questions about River Spirit Casino, that I figured it would be easier to write a quick post on it!
Why we went
Our wedding was supposed to be July 11, 2020. If you've been following for any length of time, you know that we made the decision to cancel it about three months ago.
We knew we wanted to do something fun that weekend so we weren't stuck at home thinking about it, so we decided to plan a trip with our friends to Destin, Florida.
Joke's on us because we had to cancel that too due to safety concerns with Covid, quarantining, etc.
It just so happens that one of my bridesmaids that lives in Kansas City, had a birthday the same weekend of our would be wedding, so we felt like we needed to celebrate!
Tulsa is only 3.5 hours from Kansas City, so it's a relatively quick drive. The reviews of the hotel looked great, and we were excited about the fact that we wouldn't really have to leave the property, which is key right now.
Food
There were plenty of options as far as restaurants were concerned, but we really only had time to check out two of them.
My friend and I shared lunch at Margaritaville, and it was great! It's a chain, so I'm sure you've seen them before. But they have great drinks, good food, and live music at night.
We also had dinner at Fireside Grill which was in the casino itself. We were so impressed the first night that we decided to go back and have it the second night too. If you go, the salmon dip is incredible, trust me.
They had a couple of other options, one being Ruth's Chris Steakhouse which Taylor and I both love. If you go on a weekend, highly recommend making a reservation, it was packed both nights we stayed!
Other than that, there's a breakfast cafe, a couple of sports bars, and a pizza shop inside the casino. We had 3am pizza both nights we were there, also highly recommend!
Room
I really can't say enough about our room and how clean everything was. I can be kind of a hotel snob and I was so impressed. For what we paid it was incredibly nice. I have zero complaints!
Pool
The pool was by far our favorite part of the weekend. We spent our whole afternoon there on Friday and it was a party. Tons of pool chairs, awesome cabanas you could rent, great poolside service, the most fun atmosphere, etc.
There's a Landshark bar at the pool that we frequented and they had great drinks and really good service too!
Casino
I am not a huge gambler so I can't speak to anything gambling/payout related, but we had a great time. There are two different parts to the casino. One side is almost all slots, the other is a mix of slots and tables.
Neither casino was ever too crowded, the servers were really good, and I constantly saw people cleaning the machines which made me feel better right now!
They offer a ton of entertainment on the weekends which was so much fun! We listened to live music on Saturday night until 2am. The performer was incredible and the atmosphere was so much fun. They have a great lineup of performers on the weekends, so no matter when you go, someone will be playing!
Covid
I know someone will ask about the Covid precautions being taken right now so I'll tell you what we experienced!
- All employees wore masks at all times.
- Guests were encouraged to wear masks, but not required. Inside, I probably saw 90% of people wearing masks. Outside, not nearly as many.
- Machines in the casino were being wiped down constantly.
- Blackjack tables were limited to 3 players per table.
- There was a table left empty between all tables so that people were spread out appropriately.
Would we go again
Being that we are in Kansas City, and travel is not always quick and easy for us, we will absolutely go back for a weekend. We had a great time, and we loved doing something different for the weekend.
There is SO much to do in Tulsa so next time we go, we'll definitely be exploring the area a little bit more. I know there are tons of cocktail bars, great restaurants, and breweries in the area we'd love to check out!
I know so many of you that are in the same boat we are, and have had to cancel weddings, trips, anniversaries, etc. I won't tell you that this could totally replace your honeymoon by any means, but if you need somewhere to go just for a quick 48 hour getaway, I highly recommend River Spirit!
