Burger Salad w/ Fry Sauce
Burger salads have been a favorite of mine for years now. Mainly because they're high in protein, they're quick and easy to make, and they do not lack in the flavor department. Basically, you're eating fast food at home, the macro friendly (and cheap) way! Who doesn't love that!?
It may come as a surprise to most of you, but I'm also not the biggest burger bun fan. I'm not really sure why, as I love every other carb, but a burger with a giant bun has just never been my fast food guilty pleasure. Which is also why this salad is so appealing to me!
If you're counting macros, this salad is an even bigger winner. It's high in protein and fairly low in fat, especially if you use a really lean ground turkey. So regardless of what your macros are, it should be fairly easy to fit as a lunch or dinner option!
The salads takes less than 10 minutes to make, and that's only because you're cooking the ground turkey. After you cook your turkey, you'll keep it in Tupperware, and then you'll only have to put the salads together each day which takes less than two minutes.
In the time it takes you to cook the turkey, you can also put together the pickled onions and fry sauce, both of which are non negotiables in this recipe! Just kidding, you can leave the onions out if you don't love them, or you can just use raw, but this salad truly can't be made without the fry sauce.

Burger Salad
The name says it all! A macro friendly version of your favorite burger, in salad form. This recipe calls for two extra steps that make all the difference: pickled onion, and homemade animal/fry sauce. The rest is quick and easy! A quick lunch or dinner option that's high in protein and low in fat.
16 oz 99% lean ground turkey (I cook an entire batch at once, but I only use 4 oz on each salad!)
1 romaine hearts, chopped
1/4 cup reduced fat shredded colby jack cheese
2 Tbsp fry sauce
1/4 cup pickled onions
Brown your ground turkey in a skillet on medium heat for 8-10 minutes. Spice with your favorite burger seasoning, or salt and pepper!
While turkey is browning, chop a romaine heart and put into a small bowl.
Let your turkey cool, then add 4oz to your bowl.
Add in cheese, fry sauce, and pickled onion. Enjoy!
Fry Sauce
The infamous In and Out fry sauce that comes on their animal style burger and fries. This is my macro friendly version, and has become my new favorite sauce. It can be used on so many different things!
1/2 cup light mayo
1/4 cup low sugar ketchup
1 tsp granulated sugar (you could use a squirt of stevia too!)
1.5 tsp white vinegar
3 Tbsp sweet pickle relish
Combine everything in a bowl, and enjoy!
Pickled Onions
These make the most amazing salad or burger topper, and can be used on so many different things. Tacos, wraps, anything you love that needs a little extra flavor! They're extremely easy and I plan on always having a batch on hand to add to various things throughout the week!
1 medium purple onion, thinly sliced
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white vinegar
2 Tbsp honey
1/2 tsp salt
Combine everything in an air tight container, give it a good shake, and stick in the fridge until you're ready to use them! They're good in the fridge for two weeks!
